Health Premier

Star Health Premier is a plan specifically built for Senior Citizens (50 years and above) who may also want coverage for OPD consultations. The OPD benefits are capped with certain conditions but there aren’t many plans that offer this benefit for senior citizens anyway. The downside is that despite the name “Premier” the plan offers limited protection and has restrictions on the kind of room you can pick, sub-limits on treatments like cataracts and a co-pay of 20% if you are 66 or above. All things considered, this may not be the most effective option for senior citizens especially if you don’t have pre-existing conditions.

You most likely don't have to split the bill

If you bought this policy after you turned 66, you have to pay 20% of the bill every time you make a claim. Otherwise, you are good to go. The insurer will pay all costs up to the sum insured.

Your sum insured increases by 20% each year, so long as you make no claims during this period. But before you get too ahead of yourself, do note that they’ll stop offering you the bonus when your sum insured increases by 100%. Also, the bonus amount will reduce at same rate each time you make a claim. But hey, it's still a bonus.
