Reliance Super Top-Up

Reliance Super Top Up is a decent Super Top Up plan. You can pick Sum Insured options of up to 1.3 Crores with a range of deductible options (6L-30L). Alongside this, you also get access to maternity benefits of up to 2 Lakh with 1 1-year waiting period. The two potential downsides are that the plan does have a restriction on the kind of room you can pick and Reliance General (the insurer) has had a tough few years due to the precarious financial situation of their erstwhile promoter Anil Ambani. Will things start looking up for the insurer soon? Well, that’s a bet you will have to make if you are buying the plan.

Maternity benefits offered

The insurer will also cover expenses related to maternity— Think hospitalization expenses incurred while giving birth. But they’ll only pay upto ₹2,00,000 and make you wait 1 years before covering this expense. Also, you’ll only get the benefits if both, you and your spouse are enrolled in a single-family floater plan.

coPay

You’ll never have to split the bill

The insurer will bear the entire cost of treatment (up to the sum insured). You won’t have to pay a single penny. Meaning this policy has no co-payment.

prePost

Pre & Post hospitalization expenses covered

No worries if the doctor had to run a host of diagnostic tests before or after hospitalizing you. The insurer has your back. They will cover this amount in full for a pretty reasonable duration - 90 days before you are hospitalized and 180 days after discharge. This includes the cost of medication by the way.

domiciliary

Full coverage even if you are forced to hospitalize at home

The insurer will bear the costs even if you are hospitalized at home due to a condition or the hospital running out of beds. In insurance lingo, they call this a policy with domiciliary cover.

diseaseSublimit

You always have full cover irrespective of the disease

No funny business here. If your insurer hasn’t explicitly stated they won’t cover a certain illness, you can claim the full amount up to the sum insured, irrespective of the disease you’re dealing with. Meaning this policy doesn't impose the dreaded disease wise sub-limits.

dayCare

Day Care treatments covered

If you’re hospitalized for less than 24 hours in lieu of a minor procedure, then the insurer will cover these costs too. Think dialysis, chemotherapy or minor surgeries.

healthCheckup

No free Health Checkups unless you wait 3 years

If you’re planning on getting a full body checkup just to make sure you’re in fine working condition, the insurer will cover the cost once in 3 years. However, just so you know, most insurance policies offer free yearly health checkups.

Special Bonus for being healthy

Your sum insured increases by 10% each year, even if you've claimed in the previous year. But before you get too ahead of yourself, do note that they’ll stop offering you the bonus when your sum insured increases by 50%. But hey, it's still a bonus.

What's lacking here?

restoration

No Restoration Benefit

Some policies will tell you - Even after you claim part of the cover on one occasion, you will have the full cover restored, if you are hospitalized another time during the same year. So if you have a family cover and multiple members of the family are hospitalized in the same year, this feature will come in handy. Unfortunately, this policy offers no such benefit.

Add-ons

PED Modification

This optional cover reduces the applicable pre-existing waiting period from 36 months to 24 months. If you are currently diagnosed with any condition and want to reduce the waiting period, it makes sense to opt for this add-on.

Long Term Aggregate Deductible

With this benefit, a claim must exceed the Aggregate Deductible specified in the policy schedule during the specified policy tenure (2 years or 3 years) in order for it to become payable under the terms of the policy.
