The ACKO Platinum Health Plan is comprehensive right from the start, especially with coverage kicking in from day one; and no initial waiting period is always a win. Also, the zero co-pay structure is a big advantage as you're free from shelling out any costs out-of-pocket at the time of a claim, which can be a relief.
It comes with no restrictions on room rent or ICU coverage; and the inclusion of unlimited teleconsultations is a super handy feature in today's digital-first world. Another standout is the "Inflation Protect Sum Insured," which gives you a 10% extra sum insured every year, whether you make a claim or not.
However, some of their promises come with caveats. #1, Although the plan does not come with specific illness waiting periods (for select diseases), you may have to serve a pre-existing disease waiting period depending on your medical test. At the same time, Acko only recently started selling health insurance plans en masse. So its limited track record is a bit of a concern.
Another important caveat, which is common for all ACKO plans, is that this is a direct-to-consumer plan with no agents or advisors in place. While this saves cost for the insurer and lowers the premium for customers, the lack of external support means customers are stuck dealing with official insurer customer support channels with no expert advice to help them make an informed decision.

Waiting periods
STANDOUT
There can be a 0-3 year waiting period for any pre-existing disease you may have while buying the policy based on the health evaluation of the insured members.
Co-payment
The insurer will bear the entire cost of treatment (up to the sum insured). You won’t have to pay a single penny. Meaning this policy has no co-payment.
Room Rent
Shared room, single room, deluxe room or any room that’s available. The insurer won’t nitpick on your choice of room since the policy has no restrictions on room rent.
Disease sub-limit
No funny business here. If your insurer hasn’t explicitly stated they won’t cover a certain illness, you can claim the full amount up to the sum insured, irrespective of the disease you’re dealing with. Meaning this policy doesn't impose the dreaded disease wise sub-limits.
Pre existing diseases waiting
If you’re already dealing with diabetes, cardiovascular problems or any such illnesses, the insurer will cover all costs arising out of these pre-existing problems after just 0-3 years based on the health profile and diagnosis made. It’s probably the best deal you can get to be honest.
Permanent Exclusions
Conditions or treatments that the policy clearly says it will not cover.
Hormonal Therapies: Growth hormone therapy and/or any form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and/or administration of other hormonal medication (NOTE: This is from the part of PEs which can't be waived).
Expenses related to any admission primarily for diagnostics and evaluation purposes are excluded.
Diagnostic expenses not related or incidental to current diagnosis and treatment are excluded.
Expenses for admission primarily for bed rest and not for treatment are excluded.
Custodial care at home or in a facility for help with daily activities is excluded.
